Today was my first Saturday as a twenty five year old. A twenty five year old! It actually doesn’t feel too weird to be saying that. (I’ve been practising). It does feel weird to be at work and take a resume from a teenager doing the rounds and see that their birth date is in the year 2000. So weird.
So anyway, my first Saturday as a real real-life grownup. So what did I do? I spent the entire day in my pyjamas! It was brilliant. I did lots of other things too (I am a grownup after all), but I didn’t leave the house and I didn’t leave my PJs. Man I love being old.
I welcomed my quarter of a century on Thursday, with a cup of tea in bed and a cherry tree hidden in the garden. Will and I rode our bikes to our secret blackberry patch to pick some birthday berries but they weren’t ripe yet so we had a swim in the dam instead. We went out for breakfast and I bought a pink glass jug for $8 from an opshop.
And I made a cake!
A four layer cake sandwiched together with lemon and grapefruit curd and cloaked in vanilla meringue buttercream. And then sprinkles. Because when you turn twenty five you should celebrate with sprinkles on your birthday cake.
Hurray for cake, hurray for pyjamas and hurray for being twenty five. I am excited. I plan to bake a lot, travel a little and enjoy the small moments. It’s going to be a good year.
Happy my quarter of a century everybody!
